Devereux celebrates direct support professionals during appreciation week in September

At Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health, our direct support professionals (DSPs) play a critical role in improving the lives of children, adolescents and adults living with emotional, behavioral and cognitive differences.

During National Direct Support Professionals Recognition Week – September 8-14 – Devereux honors its 3,500 DSPs who selflessly serve those in their care, helping them lead more fulfilling, productive and socially connected lives.

“We cannot say enough about our talented and hardworking DSPs who provide extraordinary compassion and support to our youth, adults – and their families,” said Devereux Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Dr. Rhea Fernandes. “The work they do each and every day is at the very heart of our mission. We are grateful for their commitment and dedication as together we strive to make a difference in the lives Devereux is privileged to serve.”

What our DSPs are saying …

Devereux’s DSPs bring hope, healing and joy to the individuals in their care. Look below to find out what they love most about their jobs.

“I love going to work every morning knowing I have the opportunity to make a difference in someone else’s life by showing them kindness and compassion. I also love working for an organization that gives us the tools and training we need to be the best caregivers for our individuals.”
    – Devereux Pocono DSP Maureen Edwards

“DSPs play a significant role in helping our individuals live happy, engaged and fulfilled lives. What could be better than bringing joy to someone else’s life? I love my job and am incredibly proud of the work we do. In my four years with Devereux, I have grown both personally and professionally with the support of my supervisors and peers.”
    – Devereux New Jersey DSP and Lead Staff Arika Hackley

“What I love most about my job is that I have the opportunity to make a positive and life-changing impact on the individuals we serve. I always try to help our individuals see that this is just the beginning of a very special journey.”
    – Devereux Florida DSP Supervisor Frankie Ford
