Planning with DECA Results is a flexible, comprehensive approach that involves both a Universal and Targeted aspect. This section is covered in great detail in DECA Program training, and is briefly outlined below.
- Universal Planning for the DECA Program involves using the DECA Program Classroom Strategies guide to help turn any Reflective Checklist items that were rated as "not yet" into a "yes" for that classroom. Also a part of Universal Planning is using the Classroom Profile to determine areas of overall strength and needs for the children in each classroom. Again, the Classroom Strategies guide offers suggestions the teacher can use with the whole class to help build Initiative, Self-control, and Attachment.
- Targeted Planning involves using DECA results to plan for children with low protective factors and/or high behavioral concerns. Optional planning forms, tools, and strategies are offered in the Classroom Strategies guide, as well as in DECA Program training.
- Planning for the child's results in the home setting is also essential. Including the parent(s) as you partner(s) in planning is key to their involvement and follow-through. A parent resource, For Now and Forever, is available to families to offer suggestions and strategies.
