Foster Care Requirements

Foster care parent(s) must:

  • Applicants must be mentally and physically healthy
  • Be a responsible, mature, healthy adult at least 21 years of age with a high school diploma or GED
  • Have a regular source of income that will allow the family to care for the foster child
  • Have no criminal record or history of abusing children
  • Be willing to abide by a policy of no physical discipline
  • Have a driver’s license, auto insurance, homeowner’s insurance and dependable transportation
  • Have space for a foster child, which entails a bedroom of at least 80 square feet (foster children may share a bedroom with other children in the home, if square footage requirements are met)
  • Foster parents can be married, single, partnered, divorced or widowed
  • Be a legal resident of the United States 

Please give us a call or complete our online form so that we may schedule an orientation with you. During this orientation, Devereux Foster Care staff will meet with you, provide you with details regarding our verification/licensing process, and answer any questions you may have.
