Mary Seeley LPN
Executive Director, Devereux Poconos
Mary
Seeley has been at Devereux Pocono for 29 years, 26 of which she has served as
Executive Director of Devereux Pocono Programs and Services. Under Mary’s direction, Devereux Pocono has
flourished as a solution for struggling special needs families in the Pocono
Northeast.
Devereux Pocono began modestly in 1982 as a 25 bed intermediate care facility in the
rural Pocono Northeast hamlet of Newfoundland, with a staff of 33. When Mary was hired,
Devereux had no affiliations with any local public and private organizations
and no solid leads for growing business. Today, Devereux Pocono consists of six unique residential, training and rehabilitation programs serving hundreds of special need individuals in 12
locations. What began with a $500,000
operating budget is currently over $11 million.
It is Mary’s prudence and innovation that has driven to Devereux
Pocono’s growth and success. Programs
such as School to Work, Behavioral Health Rehabilitation Services for children,
and the creation of Community Homes were developed under Mary’s direction. Mary’s determination and desire for quality
programs has produced a community of hope for individuals with intellectual and
developmental disabilities.
You will not see Mary take credit for these
achievements. Mary modestly reminds us
“it is the staff.” From her first days
as Executive Director, Mary has been constant about rewarding and advancing her
employees. Mary was a leader in the
first regional Direct Support professional credentialing program that opens new
local career paths for persons working in human services. Mary earned her Pennsylvania Nursing Home
Administrator's license in 1986 and is a Licensed Practical Nurse. She is currently completing an advanced
degree in business administration at Keystone
College.
