Devereux New York hosts successful ‘Glow Light’ party

On February 25, Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health New York hosted a “Glow Light” party for nearly 70 residents and staff members - and it was a huge hit!

The event -  held at one of the organization’s adult group homes for medically fragile individuals in Hudson, N.Y. - kicked off with participants decorating white t-shirts with ultraviolet (UV) reactive paint and markers, and handing out glow necklaces and UV reactive beads. Then, group hit the dance floor.

“Our dedicated staff made sure everyone had a great time, and residents were very creative and artistic with their t-shirts,” said Devereux New York Executive Director John Lopez. “One of our resident partygoers even sent us a thank you note, telling us it was a ‘super fun evening.’ In fact, the event was such a success that ‘Glow Light Party II’ is already in the planning stages.”

Recreation is key to health and wellbeing

At Devereux, recreational therapy is a critical factor when it comes to helping the individuals we serve improve their overall health and development. Just a few examples of recreational therapy offered at Devereux include music and dance classes, arts and crafts, sports and games.

“Recreation - and just having fun -  can have a significantly positive impact on health and wellbeing, and it is integral at every age,” Lopez noted. “Our recreation coordinators and staff ensure that appropriate, exciting and enriching activities are available to the men, women and children we support. Within our community-based programs, each group home hosts regular activities open to their peers, ranging from movie nights and dinners to BBQs and events like our Glow Light party. Our recreational activities are a wonderful part of our overall programs and services here in New York, and it shows through our residents’ excitement and enthusiasm.”
