In Community-based homes and apartments throughout the state, individuals learn life skills designed to increase their ability to live as independently as possible in the community. Each home/apartment is shared by two to six individuals of similar age and interests, ranging in age from six years old to adulthood.
 MR/DD Treatment Home Program Individuals with developmental disabilities and autism live in homes throughout the state with professional practitioners who teach skills directly and serve as models for appropriate alternative behaviors. All teaching treatment homes are designed to provide a family-like setting with the practitioners providing consistency, teaching and stability for the individuals. One to four individuals of similar age ranges reside in the homes. Ages range from three to adulthood.
Devereux New Jersey Center for Autism addresses the particular needs of children, adolescents and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), the Center located in Bridgeton (in the southern region of the state), offers residential, educational and vocational programs. All the programs are geared to reaching these individuals, helping them overcome challenging behaviors, and teaching them crucial life skills. The Center promotes individual strengths and supports areas that need development through an individualized, behavior approach.
Educational Programs: Devereux New Jersey has an approved private school at the Devereux New Jersey Center for Autism in Bridgeton for both day and residential students aged 5 to 22. This school uses current "Best Practices" best on Applied Behavior Analysis, community-based instruction, and an emphasis on developing individual strengths and increased communication skills.
Adult Training/Vocational Programs: Many adults referred to Devereux New Jersey access hands-on job training, work adjustment training, and job coaching. We arrange for mobile work crews, enclaves, competitive employment and volunteer opportunities in the community as well.
 Therapeutic Services: Depending on the program within the network, a variety of services may be provided, which could include the provision of psychological services, behavior support, speech and language therapy, medical care, psychiatric services, as well as occupational and physical therapy.
Devereux Treatment Home Programs: Devereux Treatment Home Programs are part of the New Jersey Children's System of Care Initiative, the Treatment Homes provide a therapeutic home environment for children ages 5 to 21 that are in need of a short term living arrangement. The homes are located in or near the child's home community in order to support the child's relationships with those people who are significant in their lives. Treatment Home providers, in collaboration with other service providers, meet each child's physical, emotional and behavioral needs and work to achieve his or her permanency goals.
Intensive, Intermediate & Traditional Treatment Home Programs: Youth with emotional and behavioral disorders and learning disabilities often thrive in a teaching family with professional practitioners. These practitioners actually serve as primary treatment facilitators, teaching directly and by example. In Treatment Homes throughout the state, youth learn alternative behaviors and everyday living skills necessary for them to eventually live on their own. The Treatment Home approach incorporates individual, group and milieu therapies, as well as psychiatric services, speech therapy, medical and nutritional interventions, and pre-vocational training. The therapeutic environment of the Treatment Home helps these youth modify their behavior so they can return to their own communities or independent living.
Devereux Intensive Homes for Dually Diagnosed Adults: This intensive program consists of two homes located on the grounds of the North Jersey Developmental Center in Totowa. This unique program is designed to provide a safe environment to meet the specific treatment needs of adult males, 21 through 60 years of age, who have social/sexual behaviors and cannot function in a less restrictive setting. Consumers in this program participate in vocational opportunities and receive behavior support and individual group therapy. Once a consumer has completed their treatment in this program, transition and step-down services are available.
Devereux Consultants: An independent community resource, Devereux Consultants provide assessment, program planning and implementation, parent and staff training, professional opinions, and workshops for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), Mental Retardation and other severe developmental disabilities, as well as social-emotional disorders. Programs are based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. Devereux Consultants work collaboratively with parents, educators and professionals in other fields, all with the goal of encouraging positive growth and progress. | |
