Devereux Kanner - Residential Programs
People need to feel a sense of independence in the world. Devereux Kanner builds the skills that allow people to achieve this goal. Kanner has developed step-by-step teaching programs to assist in skill acquisition in areas ranging from personal hygiene to self-advocacy. Students gain the skills to access community resources, which may include recreational activities, transportation, shopping and community employment. Kanner staff provides support to help each individual live as independently as possible.
 I/DD Program - Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities
The I/DD Program serves boys and girls with developmental disabilities, ages 6 to 17, with severe to mild Mental Retardation and with moderate to severe behavioral challenges and/or Autism. The primary goal of the I/DD Program is to maximize the independent functioning of each resident to his/her highest potential.

The I/DD Program prepares students to transition to the least restrictive environment possible. Our home-like settings provide opportunities for students to learn a wide variety of skills such as: basic care skills, communication skills, anger management, problem-solving techniques, fundamental social skills, independent living skills, self-esteem building, recreational skills and community safety. These programs use a wide range of intensive, highly-structured positive behavioral support techniques that focus on developing and teaching age-appropriate behaviors.

The I/DD Program offers twelve different residential settings, providing both on-campus residences and  homes in the community as treatment options. The I/DD Program offers a continuum of homes that are distinguished by age, gender and ability levels. A high staff-to-resident ratio ensures individualized programming designed to maximize each resident's development. Stimulating and productive recreational and instructional activities are provided in both the home and surrounding community.
Sexual Responsibility Program

The Sexual Responsibility Program provides secure residences where strong treatment culture is created for young males between the ages of 12 and 17. In this environment, all individuals are working on similar issues and treatment can be implemented 24 hours a day.

Individuals treated range from mild intellectual disability to borderline intellectual functioning, and have sexually irresponsible behavior. Additionally, some may have psychiatric disorders to address in order to get successful treatment results.

Treatment combines cognitive-behavioral and psycho-educational procedures that are implemented by an interdisciplinary team of professionals in the field of sex disorder rehabilitation. Staff includes specialist in clinical and forensic psychology, adolescent psychiatry, behavior analysis, special education and residential counseling. Intensive staff to client ratios provides for maximum supervision and treatment effectiveness.

DBD Program - Disruptive Behavior Disorders
The DBD Program serves boys and girls with emotional disturbances and developmental delays, ages 6-17, who are dually diagnosed, with Mild intellectual disablility to Borderline Intellectual Functioning and have moderate to several emotional disturbances. DBD residents may have experienced sexual, physical and/or emotional abuse. The primary goal of the DBD is to transition residents back to their home community and to the least restrictive living environment possible.

Kanner's home-like settings provide opportunities for students to learn a wide variety of skills, ranging from basic self-care skills to independent community access. The DBD Program offers a wide range of programming options. Residents in some homes may be working on basic anger management and self-care skills, while others are obtaining training that will allow them to independently maintain a household and gain self-supporting community employment.

The DBD Program offers seven different residential settings, including on-campus residences and homes in the community as options for treatment. The DBD Program offers a continuum of homes that are distinguished by age, gender and ability levels. High staff-to-resident ratios provide for the supervision and support necessary for each resident to develop the personal control necessary to achieve their individual goals. Recreational and instructional activities are presented in the home and surrounding community, challenging the residents to gain increasing levels of independence.
Treatment Family Program
Services are provided by therapeutic treatment parents for one to four individuals in the parent's own home. The Treatment Family Program is distinguished from traditional foster care through its emphasis on person centered planning and individualized treatment. The primary goal is to develop both appropriate and responsible interpersonal social behavior so that family reintegration or supporting living can be achieved. Each parent family is supported 24 hours daily by a program consultant and treatment coordinator who assist the teaching parents in the development, structure and implementation of each individual's treatment program. When possible, the birth parents/guardians are encouraged to learn the same therapeutic processes, so that they can continue to maintain or increase the skills learned by the individuals once they have returned to their home communities.
