How do I refer someone I care about to Kanner?

Prospective applicants are carefully evaluated by a multi-disciplinary team to determine if our programs are appropriate for the applicant's needs. This team approach is used to address all aspects of residential, educational, vocational and community support services for the people we serve.

The evaluation process begins with a paperwork screening. We need the following information to help determine the applicant's compatibility with Kanner's services:

  • Psychiatric Evaluation (within the last three years)
  • Individual Education Plan (IEP) and educational reports
  • Medical History & Reports
  • Record of Placement & Treatment History
  • Psychological Evaluation and/or Adaptive Scales
A Devereux Admission Representative will contact you within 48 hours upon receiving your referral and advise you on the status of the referral. They may accept the person immediately, ask for clarification on questions that arise from the paperwork screening or set up an individual evaluation meeting.

If an evaluation is indicated, they will assist you in scheduling an appointment. An on-site evaluation will give you and your applicant an opportunity to see the program and meet with professional staff.

If no further questions or evaluations are necessary, an Admission representative will contact you to discuss the results of the evaluation. If we can provide appropriate services for your applicant, funding confirmation and admission dates can be finalized at that time.
What are the fees?
Fees for services at Devereux Kanner vary. Many state agencies fund and assist in making placements at Devereux. Funding for the school and day programs may be provided through the student's home school district. Students placed in residential facilities outside of their home school district may be funded through provisions of the Pennsylvania Education Codes. The Admission staff will refer you to available funding agencies so you can apply for funding for your applicant. Devereux also accepts private payment.
