| Kanner was founded in 1948 when Devereux purchased "Chesteridge" from descendants of Benjamin Rush whose signature is on the Declaration of Independence. The buildings constructed in 1908 were used in the original program for children with autism designed by Helena T. Devereux and Dr. Leo J. Kanner. In the 1980's, the campus became known as The Leo Kanner Center. Our campus setting and school are located in scenic Chester County, Pennsylvania on an 80-acre site with additional group homes and program sites in the surrounding community. |
