| The Supervision of Crisis Prevention/Intervention |
The Supervision of CP/I is an evidence-based supervisory training program designed for lead staff, first-line supervisors and middle managers responsible for direct-care/direct-support staff and their implementation of Devereux CP/I concepts and skills. The program is built on the premise that effective training and supervision are essential for the successful prevention and intervention of crises and the elimination of restraints.
Many barriers interfere with staff’s transfer of skills and knowledge from their training experience to their job performance. Stand-alone training is not enough. However, a proven strategy for promoting staff’s performance of Devereux CP/I skills and reducing restraints is to involve supervisors in the transfer of learning process.
This two-day program will enable supervisors to:
- Identify issues that impact supervisory roles and responsibilities in crisis prevention and intervention.
- Recognize elements of an environment that foster crisis prevention and the reduction and elimination of restraints.
- Heighten their own knowledge and skill level of Devereux CP/I concepts and techniques.
- Promote staff’s mastery, retention and performance of Devereux CP/I concepts and skills.
- Provide supportive, behavioral supervision to staff.
- Implement strategies for providing performance monitoring and feedback to staff members.
- Facilitate a seven step staff debriefing process in follow-up to crises.
All participants will receive The Supervision of Crisis Prevention/Intervention Participant’s Guide. This guide serves as a helpful active learning aid during the training program and as a valuable resource and reference tool in the supervision of staff. The Participant’s Guide includes supervisory observation tools, debriefing forms, skill sheets and self-monitoring check lists.
The Supervision of Crisis Prevention/Intervention Trainer’s Manual is available for purchase for trainers who have successfully completed this program and are currently certified Trainers in Staff Effectiveness, Safety Techniques and/or Personal Emergency Interventions. The curriculum includes lesson plans for each module and accompanying CD-ROM with PowerPoint presentations, participant handouts, post-tests, observation tools and supplementary training materials.
