Advisory Board News

We are proud to welcome our newest Advisory Board member, J. Smith Peck. Born and raised in Cobb County, Mr. Peck attended McEachern High School and Jacksonville State University where he met his wife, Julie, of 27 years. Smith and Julie have three children and currently live in Marietta, GA. Mr. Peck started his insurance career in 1993 at Northwestern Mutual where he began to work with business owners to help solve various problems every business owner faces. In 2004 after the loss of his son, Smith and Julie began the Jackson Smith Peck Children’s Foundation. The Jackson Smith Peck Children’s Foundation continues to serve children’s organizations through a donor advised fund.

Mr. Peck has a strong passion for serving children and youth, and is devoted to his community. We are honored that Smith has chosen to serve Devereux!

Devereux video: Listening to Our Families
At Devereux, we strive to be in full partnership with each client's family. Listening to the needs, fears, and concerns, while delivering quality, individualized treatment to the child, is a necessity for success. We know our staff are better clinicians and therapeutic mentors when are working in tandem with families.

We are incredibly grateful for Advisory Board member, Monica Mora! Recently, she hosted a third party fundraising drive,“The Creative Hope Drive," for Devereux's therapeutic art enrichment program. During the event at SharedSpace ATL, Monica had an artist painting live, and a DJ! “The Creative Hope Drive” served as a drop-off for art supplies for Devereux and we can't believe all the items she collected!

How YOU Can Help

Devereux Georgia is seeking community partners for our 2018 Hope Event: The Art of Feelings at the Marietta Country Club in Kennesaw on Thursday, September 20, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. There are various sponsorship levels available - designed to fit any company's budget. Contact Liz Bunder at ebunder@devereux.org to learn how you can support Devereux Georgia in changing lives and saving families.

Are you or someone you know interested in learning more about Specialty Foster Care? Are you interested in supporting the need for more foster care homes in Georgia but do not have the ability to foster yourself? In three neighboring Devereux counties alone, there are approximately 1,600 children in foster care, with less than 400 state managed foster homes in which to place them. By increasing the number of specialty foster homes, Devereux has the ability to better meet the needs of SED (Severely Emotionally Disturbed) children/youth in need of qualified, therapeutic foster homes, who are referred to our agency on a daily basis. Contact Community Programs Coordinator, Mia Hobdy, at mhobdy@devereux.org to learn more about how to get involved with Devereux’s Specialty Foster Care program
