Events and Campus Activities

Devereux Georgia is grateful to be a beneficiary of the Atlanta Commercial Board of REALTORS® Annual Spring Fling fundraiser. The ACBR Community Service Committee and over 400 ACBR members came together May 10 at City Winery at Ponce City Market in Atlanta, to raise over $55,500 to benefit Devereux Georgia and another local charity, Wellspring Living. Special thanks to F. Keene Miller, ACBR member, past-chair and long-standing member of Devereux Georgia’s Advisory Board, for facilitating this special partnership.

Members of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church volunteered with us on Saturday, April 28, through MOVE: ATL (Share the Blessing), their annual community mission project. What a joy it was to have helping hands on our campus, landscaping and organizing a large storage area. Thank you JFBC for your continued support! You continue to make a huge impact on our campus and for our clients.

Devereux Georgia’s Advisory Board hosted an Invitational Breakfast on Friday, May 4. Guests had the opportunity to hear from Gwen Skinner, Operational Vice President and Dr. Yolanda Graham, Executive Director of Mental Health Services. They also had the opportunity to tour our 40-acre campus. If you are interested in attending our next breakfast, contact Liz Bunder at ebunder@devereux.org.

We are proud to celebrate Ackerman Academy’s 2017-2018 Teacher of the Year, Ms. Elizabeth Planos. Ms. Planos has an impressive background, which includes a B.A. degree from Brooklyn College, a M.A. in Special Education and a M.Ed. in Behavioral Research from Columbia University. Noteworthy accomplishments include, serving as the Program Director/Principal for Carl Fenichel Community Services in New York, as well as being the recipient of art scholarships from the Pratt Institute and New York University. Ms. Planos is the past president of the Dunwoody, GA chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children.

During her 10 years of service at Devereux, Ms. Planos has volunteered to lead many campus projects and assist with the Hope Event. She is an active member of the School Improvement Leadership Team and serves as a mentor for new teachers and support staff.
