Advisory Board News and Announcements

Devereux Georgia Advisory Board member and former State Representative Judy Manning was recently appointed by Governor Nathan Deal to serve on The Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) State Advisory Board. The Board’s purpose will be to review and make recommendations regarding issues relating to the protection of children and the welfare and public assistance functions of the Division. Mrs. Manning previously served in the Georgia House of Representatives for District 32 and held the position of Chairman for the House of Representatives Children and Youth Committee.

Events and Campus Activities

Members of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church chose Devereux Georgia once again for their “Share the Blessing” annual volunteer day. On Saturday, April 29, members of the church transformed the area between our middle and high school into a beautiful landscaped area and planted two lovely large planters for the entrance to our 100 Building. They also blessed us by organizing the toy and clothing room in our Specialty Foster Care building. We sincerely appreciate the members of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church for donating their time and talents to Devereux Georgia and the youth we serve…not only on their Share the Blessing volunteer day…but throughout the year!

Recently, Heather Rees, President of The Circle for Children, presented a gift to Devereux Georgia Special Project Coordinator, Dolly Fehd, and Devereux Georgia volunteer, Marion Bledsoe, at their annual Spring Luncheon. The donation will help fund audio/visual equipment for our new Performance Stage Phase II of our Outdoor Classroom project. The stage, amphitheater seating and landscaping will be completed in mid-summer. The Circle for Children has contributed to worthy children’s organizations for more than 70 years. Their mission is to give aid and encouragement in promoting the education and welfare of children in the state of Georgia. Thank you to all of The Circle for Children members!

Many thanks goes to LendingPoint, LLC and CEO & Co-Founder and Devereux Georgia Advisory Board member, Tom Burnside, for funding the swimsuits for our summer swimming program. The kids will really enjoy their new swimsuits when the campus pool opens in the next few weeks!

We are extremely proud of our own Dr. Yolanda Graham, the Devereux Foundation's Executive Director of Mental Health Services and Devereux Georgia’s Medical Director, on her recent graduation from the Georgia Physician's Leadership Academy in a year-long training program of physicians as leaders & advocates, sponsored by the Medical Association of Georgia (MAG). Congratulations Dr. Graham!

How YOU Can Help

As summer approaches, our activity therapists work to provide as many opportunities for therapeutic activities as possible - some outside to enjoy the beautiful weather and some inside to beat the heat. Our Activity Therapy Department is currently in need of a variety of new board games, outdoor games, and sports equipment. For more information on items needed, or to discuss how you can help, please contact Liz Bunder at ebunder@devereux.org or (678) 303-2678.

The Art of Feelings

Don’t forget to save the date for Devereux Georgia’s annual fundraiser, The Hope Event: “The Art of Feelings,” on Thursday, September 21, 2017, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. The event, taking place at the Marietta Country Club, will include a silent auction showcasing artwork created by Devereux children and art donated by local artists, heavy hors' d'oeuvres, music, cocktails and more. Tickets (only $50) will be available to purchase in mid-summer. If you/your company would be interested in sponsoring the Hope Event and receive substantial recognition for your support, please contact Nedra Wooten at nwooten@devereux.org or call her direct at (678) 303-5256 to learn more about our numerous sponsorship levels.
