Advisory Board News and Announcements

As we begin the new year, we are excited to announce the instatement of new Advisory Board officers. Officers include Joe Glancy, Chair; Hank Booth, Vice-Chair; and Cody Hilbun, Secretary. Devereux Georgia would like to thank Jere Smith, Advisory Board Immediate Past-Chair for his leadership in the Chair role for past two years. Mr. Smith led the Board through successful and productive projects and we are grateful for his dedication.

Current Advisory Board Chair, Joe Glancy of The Glancy Agency was honored December 5th, 2016 by the Cobb Chamber of Commerce by being awarded the Sam Olens Business Community Service Award. Joe and his agency have dedicated numerous volunteer hours, financial support and advocacy to Devereux Georgia. On behalf of our staff, and clients, congratulations to Mr. Glancy and The Glancy Agency!

Events and Campus Activities

To kick off the holidays at Devereux Georgia, clients performed for staff, peers, Advisory Board members and guests on December 1st with “The Season of Magic,” a performance showcasing their amazing singing and acting skills. During the program, Executive Director, Gwen Skinner presented the ”Culture of Caring Award” and $500 to therapist Anthony Potter. Anthony exemplifies going above the call of duty with his dedication to the care of our clients.

Another special holiday time on campus this year was the Holiday Open House held on December 21st. It was a celebration of the season with delicious food and treats, along with caroling from our very own staff.

On Christmas Day, Chef Benjamin Meyer and the team from the restaurant Barcelona Westside Ironworks showed up to treat our kids with a delicious Christmas Day lunch. The menu, which included gourmet specialty dishes, was a hit with the kids and Devereux staff. Thanks so much to Chef Meyer, his staff and their families for volunteering on their holiday, and for making the holiday extra special for our kids!

In March of 2015 we began construction of our beautiful, state-of-the-art outdoor classroom on our campus. Nearly two years later we are thrilled to begin the second phase of the project. Construction will begin this month on the performance stage which will sit adjacent to the outdoor classroom. The project will feature graduated amphitheater style seating, landscaping of native plants, a rainwater irrigation system, and a performance stage for year round movie nights, plays, and other productions. Be on the lookout for a ribbon cutting ceremony sometime this spring!
