Devereux Florida Foster Care

Devereux Florida - Foster Care

Devereux Florida Foster Care Programs serve children in 20 counties throughout the state. Foster Care services range from intensive clinical intervention, medical foster care, regular foster care to traditional case management for children in the foster care system.

Specialized and Therapeutic Foster Care serves children ages 5-17 with serious emotional disturbance and behavioral problems in a structured foster home setting. The foster parents are specially trained, receiving 30 hours of clinical training and are supported by a treatment team composed of psychiatrists, therapists, behavioral analysts and case managers, as directed by the treatment team. Therapeutic services are provided in the foster home setting, at least weekly and parents are specifically trained to manage the challenging behaviors. Foster parents also involve the client in monthly psychiatric visits in the office and quarterly treatment team meetings. Therapeutic Foster homes typically have a licensed capacity for two foster children.

The Supportive Foster Care Program serves adolescents who have successfully completed treatment and who need to learn skills for independent living. Typically, four children reside with foster parents, who continually assess and work to remedy deficits in the child’s life skills. The foster parents are supported by a trained counselor whose focus is linking the youth with the community and evaluating their readiness for self-sufficiency.

Traditional Foster Homes serve the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) foster children who are birth to 17 years of age. Foster Parents receive 30 hours of pre-service training. Traditional foster homes can have a licensed capacity to serve up to five foster children. The focus of this service is to ensure that children are provided with health services, safe and stable home environment, attend school, participate in cultural or recreational activities and visit the family of origin, if permitted, by the case plan. Devereux therapists are available to provide clinical services to these children in the foster home, if clinically indicated.

Additional child welfare services also include recruitment, training and retention of the foster homes for the Department of Children and Families. These services are contracted through the Department of Children and Families.
