Case Management and Child Welfare Programs
Devereux Florida helps individuals and families gain access to resources in regard to basic needs, education and supportive services. Supportive services includes social skills training, parent education, supportive counseling, and crisis intervention.
Devereux Florida’s Case Management provides services to children and families who are involved with the Department of Children and Families and/or in the state dependency system, providing family support to children at-risk of abuse, abandonment or neglect. Our program monitors the well-being of children while addressing factors that place children at-risk for out-of-home placement. Our goal is to prevent the occurrence of child abuse and neglect by working with families, caregivers and community providers.
Our program helps families seek help in crisis situations, provides stabilization and helps connect them to community resources. A Family Centered Planning approach is used to help identify the families’ strengths, dreams and goals. Services include assessment, monitoring and supervision, case planning, service referrals and tracking, independent living skills, family preservation, intact family services, extended family support services, protective services, reunification, adoption, foster care, and permanency services.
Devereux’s case management services are provided in Brevard, Hillsborough, Lake City, Orange, Tampa, Trenton, and Volusia Counties. Frequency of contact depends on the needs of each individual child and family.
Targeted Case Management
Devereux Florida offers Targeted Case Management to help children and their families through family challenges and crisis. Our targeted case managers work with dependency case managers to determine the needs of a child or family that are outside the scope of dependency case management. Our targeted case managers advocate for the needs of our youth living at home, in the community or in residential programs.
Targeted Case Management is a strengths-based service that is meant to support and supplement dependency case management. It is designed to enhance the child’s functioning within the home, school and community. Our targeted case managers work closely with the child, their family and the child’s dependency case manager.
Targeted case managers meet with the child and family at least one to two times a month to assess the child’s needs and strengths, advocate for the child, link the child to appropriate services and monitor those services to determine any further needs. Our targeted case managers also are instrumental in supporting the adolescent through the transition to adult services when the time comes, or work with children who need prescribed psychotropic medications.
Family Support and Visitation Center
Devereux Florida’s Family Support and Visitation Center (FSVC) offers supervised visitation for children who are in state custody and have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect and/or abandonment. The FSVC provides a safe, neutral, child-friendly environment in which children can maintain and develop their relationship with family members while they are in the custody of the state. The FSVC provides resources and support for the preservation and enhancement of families by operating a facility that accommodates foster care visitations and educational resources; collaborating with family service agencies to formulate programs for parents; and informing parents of available community resources.
The FSVC benefits from the participation of trained volunteers from the Foster Grandparent Association, interns from local colleges and universities and volunteers from the community. The FSVC also receives funding support from the Junior League of Greater Orlando and the Heart of Florida United Way.
