A Message from Linda Likins, National Director, Devereux's Early Childhood Initiative For everyone of us who cares deeply about our nation's children, the findings from the National Study of Early Child Care and Youth Development are very disturbing. As child advocates, we have long recognized how important it is that children be cared for in high quality environments by caregivers who value the importance of children's social and emotional development. While these research study findings may be disturbing, as advocates for young children, we must use this opportunity as one to help raise awareness about the importance of promoting children's healthy social and emotional development. The Devereux Early Childhood Initiative is committed to changing the way that our nation prioritizes children's social and emotional development. As advocates for children, we need to ensure that these findings are used to promote more dialogue about this important message and to focus our nation's attention on our children's healthy social and emotional development helping to make them successful in school and life.
