Devereux CBC is looking for a new name

Port St. Lucie – Devereux Community Based Care last week asked the community to help come up with a new name for itself – something to cement its place in Okeechobee and the Treasure Coast.

The community had a few ideas. More than 100, actually.

"We have a very robust list with names submitted from every part of our community," said Christina Kaiser, community relations director for Devereux CBC, the non-profit organization responsible for child-welfare services in Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee and St. Lucie  counties. "We got submissions from staff, adoptive families, foster parents, providers, business owners and children – we’re thrilled by the community involvement."

The names – all 113 – were submitted to a renaming contest hosted by Devereux CBC earlier this month as part of a larger re-branding initiative called New Name, Same Passion.

“We thought it was a fun way to launch the campaign and to get the community ready for our new brand,” Kaiser said.

A short list of submissions is being created and will be voted on by the organization's employees and contracted dependency case managers sometime in the next few weeks. The winning entry will be announced - and a $50 gift card awarded - later this spring once formally approved by the Devereux CBC Board of Directors.

“When Devereux CBC was established in 2013, we promised the Department of Children and Families that we would be fully integrated with our local community within five years," Kaiser said. "This name change will acknowledge our standing as an independent, community-based organization reflective of the families who live and work here."

Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health, which helped establish Devereux CBC, will continue to provide administrative services such as IT and human resources.

All changes will be effective July 1.
