Just Care More falls to earth, brings Teddy bears

Sebastian – They dotted the sky like scattered jewels, falling gently to earth with long, whistling streamers, colored smoke and an enormous American flag.

But it was what they carried with them, heading back from the drop zone, that really turned heads.

More than 20 skydivers participated in a Teddy bear jump in celebration of National Adoption Day Saturday, November 19, at Skydive Sebastian. They jumped from two planes into clear, Sebastian skies and then brought their stuffed cargo to local children waiting for them at a nearby hangar.

The skydivers are members of Just Care More, a group of extreme sports enthusiasts who dedicate time to bringing the excitement of extreme sports to special needs children.

Saturday’s spectacle was a special event coordinated by Just Care More founder Jaime Leibert for foster and adopted children.

“Everyone wants to live,” Leibert said from behind a pair of neon colored sunglasses. “I was in foster care, I’ve known adversity – these kids need to know they can live big.”

The day’s activities also included a turbo-charged water-balloon fight between the children and Just Care More members, a tour of Skydive Sebastian, a parachute-packing demonstration and lunch donated by the Zoo Bar.

About 30 children from local foster and adoptive homes and the nearby Children’s Village attended the event.
