Caregiver Spotlight: Bethany and Brian Elias

Throughout the year, we've brought you stories of our caregivers - the men and women who dedicate their lives to the abused, abandoned and neglected children of Okeechobee and the Treasure Coast. This week, we turn the spotlight on Bethany and Brian Elias, foster parents from Martin County.

Why did you become foster parents? We wanted to provide a loving, stable home to kids who need it. Because I work in the field (as a licensing specialist for Place of Hope), I was aware of the need. We couldn't just pretend it wasn't there, we couldn't just turn our backs on it.

What inspires you? Seeing the change - the potential growth - in the children who come through our home. Also, we find inspiration in our responsibility to others who might want to do the same thing. Because we eat, sleep and breathe this, we want to be a support and an example for other families to do the same.

What is your favorite foster care experience? The relationship we gained when we helped transition our first child on to his grandmother's care. She doesn't have much support - she's a grandmother and she's back at it with a baby! We really value the relationship we have with her.
