Need a Miracle? Just call Devereux CBC's newest youth specialist

Port St. Lucie – Devereux CBC's newest Youth Specialist is Miracle Thomas, a Fort Pierce Central High School graduate setting out to make her experience in foster care matter.

Thomas started her new post September 16, a day after her 20th birthday. As part of her job, she will help Road to Success Specialists prepare teens and young adults for life after foster care - something she knows a lot about.

The pre-pharmacy student entered foster care for the first time when she was a baby. She lived with relatives for several years and then re-entered care when she was 15.

She said she understands how important a case manager is in the life of a child in care and wants to be a part of that.

In fact, her Plan B is to become a case manager.

"I know how important a role my case manager played in my life," Thomas said. "When I first got into care as a teenager, I was scared, and she made me feel so much better.

"I could call her about anything - it's more than just a job when you're someone's case manager. You're their parent."

Thomas, who was the first member of her family to graduate high school, will complete her pharmacy prerequisites at Indian River State College in a year and then head to Tallahassee to attend Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University.
