Foster Parent Resources

Caregiver Support Coordinator

The Devereux CBC Caregiver Support program helps ensure the success of foster parents. The caregiver support coordinator helps caregivers identify resources in the community, access services within the system of care, facilitates caregiver meetings and helps caregivers troubleshoot issues and resolve problems.

Mentor Program

In an effort to retain and support foster parents, Devereux CBC has created a mentoring program to educate foster parents about local resources and how to access them, to facilitate retention of foster homes, and to decrease the number of disruptions in child placements. The mentor is an experienced foster parent with years of experience who, with the Caregiver Support Coordinator, helps the foster parent troubleshoot problems in the system and helps direct foster parents to community resources. The mentor also attends all Foster Parent Association meetings and meets regularly with the Caregiver and Adoption Support Coordinator. For more information, click here.

Foster Parent Appreciation Month

Several activities are offered to foster families throughout the month of May in observance of National Foster Care Month. These activities include a formal foster parent appreciation dinner and a casual, pool-side picnic for the entire family. Devereux CBC staff continually work with community partners to expand the variety of activities available to foster families. In 2014, the City of Port St. Lucie joined Devereux CBC in expanding appreciation and recognition activities to include a garden party for local caregivers and their children.

Foster Parent Associations

Foster Parent Associations exist throughout our four counties and provide valuable networking opportunities for caregivers. The associations host monthly meetings, where caregivers can meet other foster parents, share experiences and learn from engaging speakers. Find the meeting closest to you:

St. Lucie County: Second Monday of each month, 6 p.m., at the Port St. Lucie Community Center, 2195 SE Airoso Blvd., Port St. Lucie
