QPR: QUESTION, PERSUADE & REFER SUICIDE PREVENTION

A course on Suicide Perspectives and Prevention. Increase awareness of the scope of the problem, dispel myths and misconceptions and learn the skills that could save a life!

FOSTER PARENT SUPPORT GROUP

This group offers support and information about community agencies for foster, adoptive, or kinship parents and/or families who have already had children placed in their home.  This class will aid foster parents with dealing with emotional stress, give advice regarding nurturing the foster children and offer a safe and secure environment for all foster parents to express their concerns.  This class is for the foster parents and is guided by the foster parents under the supervision of the Learning Specialist.

CPR/FIRST AID COMBO

Get certified in Adult, Child & Infant CPR and First Aid. Participants will learn current procedures regarding critical areas of care for children and adults related to choking, burns, wounds, fractures, sudden illness, and other issues. Be prepared, gain confidence, and save lives at home and within the community.

* Please dress accordingly, as there are practice activities that will require participants to be on the floor. There will be a 15 minute break – feel free to bring a sack lunch or snacks.*

Non-Devereux participants will be charged a $45.00 supply & certification fee.

Understanding the five AXIS per the DSM (The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders), treatment, diagnoses and a brief overview of the most common diagnoses in children.

This class will address mandatory psychopharmacological procedures and information related to providing safe and informed care for adults and children in foster care.

FOSTER CARE 101 – NUTS AND BOLTS

An overview of DES policies pertaining to foster families, community resources that are available to foster families, information on confidentiality, and Arizona-specific information. This course includes an exploration of professionalism, advocacy roles of parents, and the functions and roles within a CFT (Child & Family Team) meeting.

SPA: SAFE & POSITIVE APPROACHES FOR PREVENTING & RESPONDING TO CRISIS

A look at effective approaches in crisis intervention as well as discussion regarding preventative measures when working with individuals with special needs. De-escalation techniques are discussed, and practical scenarios explored. Also included is a presentation of Trauma Informed Care.

CAR SEAT TRAINING – KIDS RIDE SAFE PROGRAM

The Ride Safe Program reaches out to parents about the importance and correct use of car seats, booster seats, and restraints.  Phoenix Children’s partners with “Safe Kids,” as well as local fire and police departments to host community car seat checks.  Our trained technicians check car seat installations, train parents and, in some cases, distribute donated car seats.

WORKING WITH CHILDREN & CHALLENGING SEXUAL BEHAVIORS

This course discusses issues related to Safety Support, Boundaries, Normal Sexual Development, Sex Abuse and the effects of PTSD in sexually abused children. Join in an engaging and safe environment to discuss sexual matters in regards to foster children in our homes.

SELF-HARM BEHAVIORS

Come learn about self-harm behaviors, some of the danger signs, and how a provider can work with a client who may be self-harming. Designed for Adult & HCTC providers, but all are welcome!

LOVE & LOGIC

Love and Logic® provides simple solutions, tips practical techniques to help adults with kids of all ages: Raise responsible kids, have more fun in their role, strengthen the relationship with the kids in their life and provides tips, advice and real solutions.

A brief introduction to the philosophy and methods of the evidence-based methods of Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support as a means of reducing/eliminating problem behavior and increasing compliance with household rules/expectations. This serves to increase placement stability and reduce the number of placement disruptions.

PS-MAPP Foster Parent Training Classes

Registration is required to attend this training. PS-MAPP classes are 30 hours of training, and can be offered in a 6 or 10 week format.  Training times are subject to change. For more information, call 602-283-7107.
