FOSTER PARENT SUPPORT GROUP
This group offers
support and information about community agencies for foster, adoptive, or
kinship parents and/or families who have already had children placed in their
home. This class will aid foster parents with dealing with emotional
stress, give advice regarding nurturing the foster children and offer a safe
and secure environment for all foster parents to express their concerns.
This class is for the foster parents and is guided by the foster parents under
the supervision of the Learning Specialist.

prepared, gain confidence, and save lives at home and within the community.

accordingly, as there are practice activities that will require participants to
be on the floor. There will be a 15 minute break – feel free to bring a sack

FOSTER CARE 101 – NUTS AND BOLTS
An overview of
DES policies pertaining to foster families, community resources that are

professionalism, advocacy roles of parents, and the functions and roles within
a CFT (Child & Family Team) meeting.

SPA: SAFE & POSITIVE APPROACHES FOR
PREVENTING & RESPONDING TO CRISIS
A look at
effective approaches in crisis intervention as well as discussion regarding
preventative measures when working with individuals with special needs.
De-escalation techniques are discussed, and practical scenarios explored. Also
included is a presentation of Trauma Informed Care.

CAR SEAT TRAINING – KIDS RIDE SAFE
The Ride Safe
Program reaches out to parents about the importance and correct use of car
seats, booster seats, and restraints.
Phoenix Children’s partners with “Safe Kids,” as well as local fire and
police departments to host community car seat checks. Our trained technicians check car seat
installations, train parents and, in some cases, distribute donated car seats.
