Devereux Arizona - FAQs
What does Devereux Arizona do?
Devereux Arizona is a non-profit behavioral health and social welfare organization that cares for more than 10,000 individuals and families with special needs each year. Through programs like foster care, residential treatment, special education and outpatient counseling services, Devereux Arizona has been changing the lives of Arizona children, adults and families for more than 36 years.
What types of people do you serve?
The majority of those in our care are children (ages four to 18) with behavioral health and/or social welfare problems - often, victims of abuse and neglect. Devereux Arizona also runs an adult foster care program in Tucson that serves adults with serious mental illness.
How do people come to you?
The children and adults in our care are referred to us through Arizona Department of Economic Security, Child Protective Services, other regional, state and private agencies, private individuals, public school districts, and federal economic or health maintenance programs.
What types of behavioral and/or social welfare problems are common among those you serve?
Many are children with behavioral problems brought on after suffering some type of abuse and/or neglect and are orphans or wards of the state. Some children are brought to us by their families to receive behavioral health treatment. And while most of our clients are children, we also serve a small but growing adult population with serious mental illness.
How many employees do you have?
Devereux Arizona has more than 200 extensively trained employees throughout the state.
What types of programs do you provide?
Our founder, Helena T. Devereux, once said that every child is his or her own program. While we have a multitude of established programs and services, we also create individualized therapeutic treatments that focus on the specific needs of each individual in our care.
Are any of your programs licensed?
Yes, all of our programs are licensed by the Arizona Department of Economic Security, the Department of Health Services or the Department of Education. Since 1982, we have been consistently accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) as well as by the National Council on Accreditation since 1992.
How is Devereux Arizona funded?
Devereux Arizona receives its funding primarily through state and private-pay contracts. Fundraising and donations, however, supplement the remaining dollars needed to cover the expenses of our programs and services.
How can I help?
Financial contributions and in-kind donations are, of course, always a wonderful way to help a non-profit organization. Devereux Arizona is also in need of board members and foster parents.
