Foster Care: Helping Children/Youth Heal and Grow
Through your gift, you are contributing to our mission to unlock and nurture human potential in people living with emotional, behavioral or cognitive differences.
Foster care is intended to provide children and young adults with an opportunity to be part of a stable, supportive and nurturing family - and a positive home environment - to help them reach their unique potential. Truly, foster care has the ability to inspire and transform lives. But children in the foster care system often face challenges with normalcy, academic achievement and socialization.
In this article, Devereux Director of Foster Care Services Michael Moleski shares information about the challenges children in foster care may encounter, along with how foster parents can help children and adolescents improve behaviors, resilience and self-esteem.
On any given day, according to the Children’s Bureau, there are nearly 428,000 children in foster care across the U.S. In the greater Philadelphia area alone, there are approximately 6,500 children and young adults in foster care.
