November is National Adoption Month and Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health wants to increase awareness about the need to find permanent, loving families for children and youth in the U.S. foster care system.
This year’s National Adoption Month theme is “Teens Need Families, No Matter What,” and highlights the importance of identifying well prepared and committed families for the thousands of teenagers in foster care. “Typically, when people think of adoption, they think of infants automatically,” said Devereux Director of Foster Care Services Paul Davis. “Many people aren’t necessarily aware that there are thousands of teenagers who are also looking for their forever families. No one is ever too old to need the love and support of family, and every child deserves a caring, nurturing environment in which to grow and thrive.”
According to the most recent Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System data, more than 400,000 children in the U.S. are in foster care, and more than 110,000 children and youth in foster care are waiting to be adopted.
