Devereux Georgia Hope Event generates more than $50,000

More than 200 guests attended Devereux Georgia’s recent Hope Event: “The Art of Feelings,” at the Marietta Country Club in Kennesaw, Ga.

Participants had the opportunity to bid on numerous, one-of-a-kind artwork – many created by Devereux Georgia’s youth – during a silent auction. The annual event also featured an informational program and remarks from keynote speaker Georgia Division of Family and Children Services Chief of Staff Virginia S. Pryor. The Hope Event also provided Devereux Georgia the opportunity to premiere its new video, which showcases the center’s programs and services.

“Thanks to the generosity of our numerous sponsors and donors, we raised more than $50,000 from this event, which will continue to support therapeutic programs and services for at-risk youth,” said Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Vice President of Operations Gwen Skinner.

About the amazing artwork

10_19_2.pngThroughout the year, more than 100 adolescents served by Devereux Georgia painted their “hopes and dreams” in Devereux Georgia’s therapeutic Art Enrichment Program – many which were auctioned off during the Hope Event.

Professional art mentors worked with the children, providing personalized artistic instruction and encouragement. After the Hope Event, each child was given a framed, color print of his or her original artwork, which is taken with the youth when they discharge from treatment.

“Every child is an artist, and their art allows them to think creatively, develop skills and learn confidence,” Skinner added. “Each art piece is unique and reflects the heart of a child in treatment.”
