April is National Autism Awareness Month

Through your gift, you are contributing to our mission to unlock and nurture human potential in people living with emotional, behavioral or cognitive differences.

During National Autism Awareness Month in April, Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health stands at the forefront to support, and strongly advocate for, individuals and families living with autism, putting them on a path of greater independence and involvement within their communities.

“At every point on the spectrum, individuals and families living with autism need innovative programs and services to help them enhance quality of life and achieve productive, positive and socially connected lives,” said Devereux’s Executive Director of Autism Services Dr. Todd Harris. “At Devereux, we partner closely with parents, schools and communities to help make this a reality.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about one in 68 children in the United States has been identified with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). In addition, ASD is about 4.5 times more common among boys (one in 42) versus girls (one in 189).

Throughout its programs, Devereux teaches the idea of “resilience” - the ability to recover from, or adjust easily to, misfortune or change. That concept was taken to unprecedented levels for Devereux Texas during, and after, Hurricane Harvey.
Devereux announced that President and CEO Carl E. Clark II will lead a significant organizational redesign initiative, with the support of an expanded leadership team, that will propel the nonprofit from great to extraordinary.
