The holidays are here! And while this special time of year is filled with excitement, it can prove to be hectic for families who are juggling the demands of work and holiday preparation.
Nefertiti Bruce Poyner, Ed.D., early childhood specialist and national trainer at the Devereux Center for Resilient Children, offers seven tips for building resilience during the holiday season. She emphasizes looking beyond the craze of the holidays to build personal resilience by rediscovering the season's original values: thankfulness, family, rest and laughter.
One in every four adults report feeling “extreme stress” during the holidays, according to the American Psychological Association.
The annual Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Hope Gala is one of Philadelphia’s most premiere black-tie events, raising hundreds of thousands annually to benefit more than 3,500 children and adults with emotional, behavioral, and cognitive differences served by Devereux in Southeastern Pennsylvania. With the collaboration of more than 20 corporate sponsors, Gala Committee, Devereux Pennsylvania Advisory Board, and the Young Friends of Devereux, each year the Gala provides a special opportunity to recognize and thank our incredible donors and community partners, whose support helps us to continue delivering outstanding programs and services.
Our ultimate goal is to help all of the individuals and families we serve achieve more fulfilling and rewarding lives, and the support provided by private philanthropy is critical to making that goal a reality every year.
