Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health and Marist College co-sponsor Resilience Conference to support families and caregivers with special needs on June 15
Event will feature discussions with internationally-recognized motivational speaker Lou Radja and Dr. Robert Naseef, psychologist, author and father of a child on the autism spectrum
Villanova, PA – April 8, 2019 – On Saturday, June 15, Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health, one of the largest and most advanced behavioral healthcare organizations in the U.S., and Marist College, will sponsor “Resilience Conference 2019: Inclusive Communities – Supporting Families with Special Needs.”
The event, which is open to the public, will be held from 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m. at Marist College’s Hancock Center, located at 3399 North Road, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
The conference will feature a keynote address by internationally-recognized motivational speaker Lou Radja, who will discuss “I Am Because WE Are,” the importance of collective effort or, as he states, collective genius, to unlock the human potential of individuals living with emotional, behavioral and cognitive differences. Dr. Robert Naseef, psychologist, author and father of a child on the autism spectrum, will focus on “Neurodiversity in the Workplace” – how businesses and organizations are realizing the benefits of a diverse workforce and seeing previously-diagnosed challenges as strengths and advantages.
“As Marist strives to play an active role in the Hudson Valley by working closely with area nonprofit agencies, this conference specifically confirms our commitment to those professionals who support individuals with disabilities and their families,” said Katherine Trela, associate professor of special education at Marist College. “Our partnership with Devereux actively supports programs that prepare future service professionals in the college’s School of Social and Behavioral Sciences; this provides a bridge from classroom work to hands-on community service.”
Conference attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a Town Hall and Advocacy Panel, visit with exhibitors and join interactive workshops that will address the following areas:
“Devereux New York is excited to partner with Marist College on our second co-sponsored Resilience Conference,” said Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health New York Executive Director John Lopez. “This event aims to inform and inspire families and caregivers of individuals with special needs. While it is important to remember that resilience is something that is developed over time, we hope this conference provides participants with the tools they need to better cope with, and respond to, the daily challenges and rewarding moments they will experience in their lives.”
The registration fee is a $20 and includes all workshops and meals, or $10 for a half-day. See the full event details and registration information.
The event is supported by the “Think Differently” initiative of Dutchess County, New York, which seeks to change the way individuals, businesses, organizations and communities relate to those with special needs.
