Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Appoints Renee Martin as the organization’s Senior Vice President and General Counsel

Renee MartinVillanova, Pa. – December 4, 2017  Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health, one of the nation’s oldest and largest nonprofit providers of behavioral healthcare, today announced that its Board of Directors named Renee Martin, J.D., R.N., M.S.N. as the organization’s new senior vice president and general counsel, effective Dec. 4, 2017.

In her new role, Martin, who previously served as a partner with Philadelphia-based law firm Dilworth Paxson, LLP, will be responsible for Devereux’s corporate legal function, including overseeing corporate transactions, contract negotiations, real estate and litigation matters. She also will oversee the organization’s adherence to healthcare regulatory compliance issues, as well as governance, labor and employment matters.

About Renee Martin

Martin brings more than 20 years of legal and healthcare expertise to her position. Before joining Devereux, she served as a partner with Philadelphia–based law firm Dilworth Paxson, LLP. During her time with Dilworth Paxson, she represented and advised healthcare providers – with an emphasis on behavioral healthcare – on issues related to: quality of care and patient safety, risk management, fraud and abuse, healthcare billing and audit compliance, provider and facility licensure, and client informational privacy and confidentiality.  

Prior to this role, Martin was a partner with the law firm of Rhoads & Sinon in Exton, Pa., and also spent 10 years at the law firm of Tsoules, Sweeney, Martin & Orr, LLC in Exton, Pa. She has lectured nationally and has been published on a variety of healthcare issues related to regulatory topics, compliance, risk management and confidentiality. 

Martin earned a diploma in Nursing, with honors, from the Bryn Mawr Hospital School of Nursing; a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Magna Cum Laude, from Neumann College; a Master of Science in Nursing, Magna Cum Laude, from Villanova University; and a Juris Doctor, with honors, from the Villanova University School of Law. She is a member of the American Bar Association and is a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Currently, Martin is a board member of Community Volunteers in Medicine and serves on the Patient Safety and Quality Healthcare Journal’s editorial advisory board.
