Devereux Earns Multiple Submissions at AACAP Annual Meeting

Underscoring Devereux’s leadership in the field of behavioral healthcare, Devereux is proud to announce the acceptance of several submissions to the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) International Annual Meeting.  “It is wonderful for Devereux to be receiving the visibility and great feedback about our programs, particularly specialty programs.  We’re gaining international interest, which speaks to the work our professionals are doing across the organization,” said Dr. Marilyn Benoit, Devereux Senior Vice President and Chief Medical and Clinical Officer.

At the AACAP Annual Meeting in October, Devereux Pennsylvania’s Todd Harris, Ph.D., Director of Autism Services, Sailaja Musunuri, M.D., Medical Services Director, and Jenny Nielson, Ph.D. will lead a workshop titled, “The Use of Individualized Positive Behavior Support Processes to Treat Serious Behaviors in Children and Adolescents With an Autism Spectrum Disorder,” which will focus on the STAIRS (Short Term Autism Intensive Residential Services) program.  The three-hour workshop will explore STAIRS as it relates to the Devereux model, developed using evidence-based practices.

Dr. Benoit will participant in two presentations, one independently, titled “Treating the Sickest Kids” and for the second, she will join Devereux Georgia’s Clinical Director, Dr. Yolanda Graham, and child psychiatrists from Mexico and Puerto Rico to present a symposium titled, “Human Trafficking: Combatting the International and Domestic Sex Trade of Children in Mexico and the United States.”  This comes on the heels of Dr. Graham’s presentation on commercial sexual exploitation of children at last year’s AACAP Annual Meeting, which earned the highest ratings for its category.

A former President of AACAP, Dr. Benoit remains actively involved in the Academy, participating in mentoring and leadership activities.  This year, she will participate on a panel, “Women in Leadership.”  Designed for members, the panel members will discuss their careers, and their journeys in leadership, to inspire and inform future leaders in the field.

The AACAP International Meeting will take place October 26-31 in San Antonio, Texas
