September is Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month
Through your gift, you are contributing to our mission to unlock and nurture human potential in people living with emotional, behavioral or cognitive differences.
Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health joins the call to promote awareness and resources around the issue of suicide prevention, as well as disorders of the brain to stamp out feelings of shame that can prevent individuals from seeking help.
In September, we recognize the following observances:
- September: Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month
- September 10: World Suicide Prevention Day
- September 10-16: National Suicide Prevention Week
According to the American Association of Suicidology, more than 44,000 suicides occurred in the U.S. in 2015, which translates to 121 suicides per day.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness also states that suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S., the third leading cause of death for people aged 10-14, and the second leading cause of death for people aged 15-24.

In September, Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health President and CEO Robert Q. Kreider appeared on Comcast Newsmakers, where he shared information about the organization, his achievements as president and CEO, and details about the organization’s annual Hope Gala on November 11.
Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Director of Clinical and Professional Affairs Megan Russell-Currie was recently appointed to the American Psychological Association’s (APA) Integrated Health Care Alliance Advisory Board.
Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health Vice President of Operations and Organizational Development Rayni Brindley was recently selected to join the Rehabilitation and Community Providers Association (RCPA) Children’s Steering Committee.
