Devereux Pennsylvania receives new sensory integration room and new winter gear for every child at CIDDS campus from Vivint

In mid-November 2014, 65 employees from Vivint, a privately-held home security, home automation and energy conservation services company headquartered in Provo, Utah, volunteered their time and talents at Devereux Pennsylvania CARES (Childhood Autism Research and Education Services) and CIDDS (Children's Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Services). The volunteers painted 20 bedrooms and other areas on the campuses, repaired sections of the CIDDS Nurture Center, and equipped and built two sensory integration rooms.

The sensory integration rooms are designed specifically for the children and teens with intellectual and developmental disabilities served by Devereux Pennsylvania, providing them with opportunities to learn and practice adaptive living skills that will enhance their educational experiences. The volunteers completely transformed the spaces with bright wall colors, new flooring, furniture, and a vast array of programming materials that will keep the individuals in the program engaged, learning and developing new skills every time they utilize the space.

“The sensory integration room is a tremendous asset to our campus,” said Melanie Beidler, Executive Director of Devereux Pennsylvania CIDDS.  “Each one of the children and teens we serve is unique, each with particular strengths and learning differences.  The addition of the sensory room and the renovations across our campus will help us continue to tailor learning experiences to each child’s particular skillset,” she said.   “What the Vivint team accomplished in just three days would have taken weeks for us to accomplish on our own,” said Melanie.  “We are very grateful.”

In addition to the renovations, Vivint donated $20,000 worth of size-specific new winter coats and accessories for individuals served by CIDDS in both the day and residential programs.

Thanks to the team at Vivint for their warmth, kindness and generosity!
