Inaugural Devereux Arizona Conference a Huge Success!
Research, Education & Advocacy for Children's Health (REACH) Conference
On April 30, 2014, more than 150 professionals attended
Devereux Arizona’s inaugural conference on children’s mental health, education
and advocacy. Among the many topics covered by Devereux mental health
experts were brain development, early childhood resilience-building strategies,
treatments for disruptive behavior disorders, and positive behavioral
interventions and supports for at-risk children.
The event featured Devereux Arizona presenters and a number
of other Devereux staff, including Chief Medical Officer and former President
of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Marilyn Benoit,
M.D., who delivered the keynote address, “Are we messing with people’s brains? Putting neuroscience into clinical practice.“ Mary Mackrain, M.Ed., one of Devereux’s early
childhood experts and Sarah-Vaughan Brakman, Ph.D., bioethics consultant, also
Response was overwhelmingly positive and much appreciation
was expressed for the richness of the presentations and breakout sessions: “Devereux always offers the best trainings,”
and “I wish this was more than one day,” plus “I can’t wait to attend next
year’s conference.” The planning
