Inaugural Devereux Arizona Conference a Huge Success!
Research, Education & Advocacy for Children's Health (REACH) Conference
On April 30, 2014, more than 150 professionals attended Devereux Arizona’s inaugural conference on children’s mental health, education and advocacy. Among the many topics covered by Devereux mental health experts were brain development, early childhood resilience-building strategies, treatments for disruptive behavior disorders, and positive behavioral interventions and supports for at-risk children.
The event featured Devereux Arizona presenters and a number of other Devereux staff, including Chief Medical Officer and former President of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Marilyn Benoit, M.D., who delivered the keynote address, “Are we messing with people’s brains? Putting neuroscience into clinical practice.“ Mary Mackrain, M.Ed., one of Devereux’s early childhood experts and Sarah-Vaughan Brakman, Ph.D., bioethics consultant, also led workshops.
Response was overwhelmingly positive and much appreciation was expressed for the richness of the presentations and breakout sessions: “Devereux always offers the best trainings,” and “I wish this was more than one day,” plus “I can’t wait to attend next year’s conference.” The planning committee is already discussing ideas for next year’s conference.
