Washington, CT - Sometimes, a simple thank you will suffice. Other times, a school community will do more for those who take teaching children to heart. For Teacher Appreciation Week at Glenholme, it’s more much, much more.

Upon arrival to school on Monday, May 7, 2012, the teaching and nursing faculty were greeted with displays of recognition throughout the schoolhouse including bulletin boards and banners. Monday was followed by four more days filled with thoughtful expressions of appreciation including custom-crafted student thank you cards, containers of their favorite candies, bouquets of their preferred flowers, along with balloon displays and culinary treats. While this week puts a special spotlight on faculty appreciation, at Glenholme, thoughtfulness is commonplace.

When asked “What’s the best part about teaching at Glenholme?” Several teachers noted that it is the support and the constant encouragement from their fellow faculty that makes teaching at The Glenholme School rewarding for them. Beyond the community support, there was one popular response that demonstrated how passionate Glenholme teachers are. That response was, “The students.”

Joelle Gilbert described it best when she said, “It is, without a doubt, the students. It is incredibly exciting to be a part of their lives and to get to see them change, grow and mature. As teachers at Glenholme, we get to see our students overcome adversities, conquer fears, find academic success and develop friendships for the first time in the lives, and achieve accomplishments they never thought possible. Their courage, kindness, commitment, and bravery are inspiring.”

Great faculty make great schools. From a community standpoint, Glenholme’s teachers and nurses are more than great and Teacher & Nursing Appreciation Week gives students and staff the opportunity to publicly honor our faculty and affirm the vital role they play in the lives of students every day.

From the entire Glenholme community: “Thank you for all that you do!”
