Washington, CT - The rhythmic sounds of drums, guitar and voices are often heard in the area of the Music Building with traditional music classes, individual private lessons, and now the new digital recording studio. The studio, which had soft opening in the winter of 2010, has slowly introduced students to the exciting world of recording.

“The new digital recording studio has created quite the buzz at Glenholme,” said Bob Fappiano, a Technology teacher and the instructor for the recording studio productions. “There are so many eager students wanting to schedule time in the studio.”

“The interest has been incredible - both from students and faculty,” he said, “all expressing their excitement that this incredible resource is available for the students of the school and the community.”

The studio rivals most college facilities with one recording space, a master control room, and an equipment room. Since the studio opened, Bob has been busy recording scores of students over the past several months including individual artists, the Men’s Singing Group, and guitar soloists, along with a few studio guests.

“The recording studio is the ideal environment for instruction. The students are producing quality recordings from singles to full CD productions,” said Bob Fappiano.

Matt DeLong, the Arts program director at Glenholme, also noted, “Glenholme is never short of quality performers – particularly when it comes to the prospect of recording their own tracks. This is a rare, inspirational opportunity for students to work in a professional level studio such as ours.”

Dreams of having a state of the art digital recording studio began several years ago, noted Maryann Campbell, Glenholme executive director, and once the two adjacent rooms in the Music Building became available, the plans were set in motion and construction began shortly thereafter.

Ms. Campbell also noted, “The beauty of our recording studio is that it stands to benefit everyone with an interest in music whether they are a performing artist or they have technical interests and want to learn about art of sound engineering,” she said, “It could honestly touch everybody at Glenholme.”

“Over the coming months we will continue to refine the studio as we work on several student recording projects,” said Bob Fappaino. “A few are planning to follow in the footsteps of a recent graduate who sent his demo track to colleges with his applications. He received an acceptance to Berkley School of Music.”

Everyone is hopeful that the recording studio program will model the success of the Arts program at the school, and perhaps a future course in music production and sound engineering will be added to the afternoon curriculum in the near future. In the view of Campbell, Fappiano and Delong, the studio is a solid investment in the musical and technical talent at the school, and they believe the new resources will help to inspire and foster the emergent wealth of musicians, musical enthusiasts, and technically inspired students at Glenholme.
