Washington, CT - Loud college “hoopla” filled the gymnasium before the Saturday, February 11 basketball match up between Columbia and Yale University. As the fans' energy and anticipation rose, The Glenholme School's Men’s Singing Group prepared to perform the National Anthem in front of the excited crowd.

Earlier in the day, students and staff traveled from the Glenholme campus in Washington, CT to Columbia University, located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. They arrived at the Francis S. Levien Gymnasium, where 2,442 loyal fans clad in shades of blue and white filled the bleachers, clamoring and cheering on their teams. As the athletes prepared for the game, the cheerleaders practiced at the edge of the court, and the dance team readied their half-time routine, the Glenholme singers awaited their moment in the spotlight.

True to form, the Men's Singing Group performed an incredible a capella version of The National Anthem, met with cheers and applause from the crowd. Afterwards, the students and staff enjoyed a high-energy basketball game that kept everyone on their toes until the final buzzer. With only 11:30 minutes remaining in the game, the Columbia Lions held onto to a 21 point lead, and a win seemed inevitable until the Yale Bulldogs rallied together with an incredible offense. As the game came down to the final few minutes, Yale forced a turnover and made a lay up, putting them ahead for the first time since the start of game. Ultimately, a few failed free throws allowed Yale to seal the win, with a final score of 59-58.

It was a distinguished honor for the small group of students to perform at such a prestigious event. The idea was sparked and encouraged by the captain of the Men’s Singing Group, Griffin, who frequents many Columbia basketball games with his family and friends. In addition to Griffin, the Men's Singing Group includes Jim, Jahkai, Mike, Aaron, Will, Sam, Michal, and Steve. A group of students also attended the game to support the singers. Each student represented The Glenholme School superbly.

Congratulations to the Men's Singing Group on this amazing accomplishment!
