Through the years, the Van Sinderen family continued to support Glenholme. In 2001, a boys cottage was built in honor of Alfred Van Sinderen, Glenholme Advisory Board Founder and Chair, and was named Whiteholme in honor of his mother, Jean White Van Sinderen.

Mr. Jeff Gildersleeve, a grandson of Jean White Van Sinderen, recently connected with Glenholme through past parents and school supporters, Barbara and Terry Feeney. Mr. Gildersleeve attended the 2011 fund raiser at the Bryant Park Grill in NYC and visited campus in January 2012.
Washington, CT - There are few citizens of such high caliber as the Van Sinderen family, whose legacy of caring lives on today at The Glenholme School. The Van Sinderens, who were very involved in their community and passionate about giving back to others, owned Glenholme Farm, a world-renowned horse farm in Washington, CT. In 1968, Jean White Van Sinderen generously donated the family's 105 acre property to the Devereux Foundation, requesting that the farm be transformed into a school for children with special needs.

At a Washington Town Meeting, Mrs. Van Sinderen explained her decision: “I thought very much about what I might do with the property. I wanted to do something for children, because children had always been the main interest in my husband’s life. I knew it was something that would please him, and my children agree with me. So that is why I chose Devereux.”

Glenholme students will celebrate Heritage Day on February 28, the birthday of Jean White Van Sinderen. A traditional Glenholme Farm dessert of vanilla ice cream and crispy lace cookies, one of Mrs. Van Sinderen's favorite snacks, will be served in her honor.

Over the last 40 years, The Glenholme School has gained an international reputation of excellence by providing an exceptional learning environment and value-based education to thousands of children with special needs.
