The 2011 giving effort resulted in a 50% increase over last year - another exceptional achievement.
Washington, CT - This holiday season, students at The Glenholme School clearly demonstrated the importance of kindness and community service by participating in the school's annual Thanksgiving Food Drive. During the month-long effort, students in the school’s Community Service Program collected donations from Glenholme families and staff, which they used to create seventeen complete Thanksgiving Day feasts for local families in need. Each basket included all of the traditional holiday fixings, a gift-card for a turkey, and heartfelt notes to the recipients. The finished baskets were delivered to a thankful team at the VNA Northwest, Inc of Bantam on Monday, November 21, 2011, who distributed them to local families in time for the holiday.

Even during these trying economic times, the families and faculty of The Glenholme School increased their giving effort by nearly 50% over last year an exceptional achievement given the modest size of the school population. From campus fund raisers and food drives to nursing home visits and environmental efforts, Glenholme’s philanthropic and community service efforts have a positive effect on the community and on those who dedicate their time to volunteering. By giving to others, students also give to themselves: they develop a sense of personal achievement, overcome obstacles, gain new perspectives, and learn and practice positive values that promote good decision making.

As Round Two of the Glenholme Idol competition began on Wednesday, November 16, 2011, no one could foresee what would unfold. In the weeks leading up to this exciting double elimination round, head judge Matt Michels surprised the Glenholme Community by deciding not to impose a theme - instead, he encouraged the performers to challenge themselves, explore the depths of their talents, and bring their very best to the stage.

After addressing the full house, Matt played a video recap of Round One. Then, the eight remaining acts each took their turn in the spotlight. The competition was keen - solo singers, dancers, and duet acts stepped out of their comfort zones to demonstrate their hidden talents, each hoping to be one of the six acts that would continue to Round Three.

However, when the results were tallied, an audience favorite was destined for elimination. Not to be discouraged, the audience began to loudly chant, attempting to save their beloved act. True to the competition's interactive design, the judges ultimately honored the audience's wishes and allowed the act continue to Round Three!

With the surprising results of Round Two, seven acts will now take the stage during a triple elimination round on Thursday, December 1 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Make sure to tune in for more exciting updates after Round Three!
