Washington, CT - Aficionados of all things country western rejoiced at the annual fall Hoe Down, organized by The Glenholme School’s Equestrian Program. The crisp autumn afternoon of October 25 provided the ideal opportunity for students to enjoy a break from the rigors of academic work, gather in the horse barn with their fellow peers, and enjoy some equestrian-themed fun. Students and staff shared smiles and laughs while enjoying snacks, cider, and hot chocolate, and participating in country music karaoke, a western-style photo booth, the tin can toss, horse shoes, lassoing, and more.

Community-building events such as the Hoe Down are vital to the social and emotional learning of students with special needs. Students practice initiating and maintaining conversations, interpreting body language, waiting their turn, and trying new things... all while having fun! Regularly scheduled to occur throughout the year, these social events help to create a positive, supportive environment, strengthen friendships, and create a sense of school spirit and community.

The Glenholme School is a therapeutic boarding school for young people who are often considered fragile and complex, diagnosed with Asperger's, ADHD, PDD, OCD, Tourette's, depression, anxiety as well as learning differences.
