Washington, CT - The early spring weather brought a brisk chilly day to The Glenholme School for their Seventeenth Annual Spring Hunt on Saturday, April 16. A great gathering took place at Glenholme; toddlers, tots and adults stopped by to meet the Glenholme hare, who happily posed for some precious keepsake photos. After a quick snapshot with the guest of honor, the guest gathered at the tables of exciting activities provided by the students. Several festive opportunities included temporary tattoos, bag decorating, and a “Guess the Number of Jelly Beans.”

Before long, everyone readied for the race at the edge of Glenholme’s Garden Field to fetch some spring eggs that littered the lawns and tree limbs. It was a wondrous dash of excitement. Afterwards the toddlers and tots counted their treats, traded them for treasures, enjoyed snacks and refreshments, and awaited the winner of the jellybean guessing game. The Spring Hunt is a time-honored campus tradition that brings the community together year after year.

The students of The Glenholme School have planned this event each year since 1995. There is an extensive list of work to be completed in preparation for this day, particularly after the gardens weathered a winter of heavy snow. The Spring Hunt is a tremendous opportunity for the students to get involved with the community and participate in Glenholme’s Community Service Program. The responsibilities include clearing the Garden Field, filling the thousands of eggs, painting posters and making Easter bags for collecting eggs. This year the students were rewarded by the many smiling faces, a bin of canned items for donation to a local charity, and the personal satisfaction of being part of a highly successful community event enjoyed by so many.
