Washington, CT - A group of 18 culinary enthusiasts enjoyed an enlightening excursion to the legendary French Culinary Institute in New York City, right in the heart of SoHo. They experienced a mesmerizing behind-the-scenes tour of the entire institute and a private cooking presentation by David Arnold, FCI’s head of Culinary Technology Department.

The facility is expansive. The group was ushered to one of the many kitchens that were alive with learning. Here they enjoyed a buffet of savory delights while the culinary students continued to work and engaging their audience in an active question-and-answer session. Another stop was the "family lunch" with all of the students in the school. At FCI, ingredients are essential and as part of the program a group of students prepare a daily lunch out of the remaining ingredients from the various kitchens throughout the facility for their budgeting/operational cost learning.

Then it was on to the Culinary Stadium, FCI’s state-of-the art amphitheater, for a two hour presentation by David Arnold.

David provides a mind-blowing demonstration that fuses together his knowledge and passion for the sciences and his zest for the culinary arts. Similar to the presentation performed on campus in August, David’s new delicacies touched the taste buds of everyone in a way that was beyond words. The big hits included fried peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, chicken fried steak, homemade soda and potato ice cream whipped up with liquid nitrogen.

The experience was truly a tasty interactive delight as students participated in the presentation, enthusiastically asked questions throughout the event, taste-tested every morsel, and engaged the admissions tour wrap-up. Dedicated to the higher learning in the culinary arts, The French Culinary Institute provides an abundance of opportunities for those who enjoy cooking as a hobby or wish to pursue it as their life’s passion. The mid-November trip was a tremendous success and one which we hope to repeat many times in the years to come.
