Washington, CT -Over the past three months, Glenholme students and staff have watched as the Center for the Arts takes shape on the school’s soccer field. The foundation is set in place and shaped for seating, the steel beams of the main structure were secured in place January; and the exterior walls of the lobbies, classrooms and greenroom are currently being assembled. The construction continues almost daily, barely slowing for the cold, fluctuating weather conditions of a typical New England winter.

The Center for the Arts is vital to the mission of the Glenholme School Arts Program, which is to make the arts a vital, effective and ongoing part of every student’s life. Linked to the Motivational Management System, the arts program is designed to impact positively on each individual in both artistic skills and social competencies that will assist them in mastering their treatment plan goals and lead them to a brighter future.

Students experience the life changing power of the arts when they engage art, music and drama and Glenholme students are anticipating the many opportunities the Center for the Arts will afford them. Once complete, the regular arts events including vocal recitals, the highly anticipated Cocoa Café, and the growing summer musical production will move from their cramped quarters into a truly authentic theater setting.

The Center for the Arts will also serve as the one venue on campus with ample space to accommodate large events and provide a safe and stable environment for the continued exploration of the fine arts at Glenholme.  Fundraising efforts for the final phase of construction continue, contact Anthony Mercogliano at amercogl@devereux.org, for ways to make a difference in the lives of the students at The Glenholme School or click here to donate online.

The Glenholme School, a Devereux Center, is an exceptional boarding school for students with special needs, which offers an individually prescribed learning environment with a steadfast academic curriculum. Using our effective individualized services, we apply a positive behavior support model focused on development of social skills and lifelong strategies for success. The school’s milieu therapy addresses varying levels of academic, social and special needs development in boys and girls ages 10-18 and postgraduates.
