Holidays to Remember

Each year the Devereux Beneto, Kanner and Whitlock centers seek the help of the community in providing a happy holiday to the children and adults in their care. For a variety of reasons, some of their boys and girls, and ladies and gentlemen, are without loved ones who can provide presents or who are even available to share the holiday season. With the current economic situation, Devereux is finding even more individuals than ever before in need of love and attention this year.

This year Devereux of SE Pennsylvania received an amazing abundance of help from many kind-hearted friends - some old, and many new. There was a very significant increase in the number of corporate and private donors who contacted Devereux to participate in our annual Holiday Helper Program.

Donations from local corporations included: brand new coats from Operation Warm, Inc; individual gifts for twenty Beneto teenage girls from the Klein Company; 250 huggable stuffed dogs from Jared: The Galleria of Jewelers; delightful toys for the children in the Beneto acute-care Children’s Behavioral Health Center and for the children in the Phoenixville community from Toys For Tots; and a whole truck full of unbelievable gifts from Vanguard, through the Delaware Valley Children’s Charity, for the boys at the Beneto - Brandywine campus. Additionally there were many wonderful individuals who took each child or adult wish list and thoughtfully shopped for their special gifts.

Additionally there were special holiday activities at several of the centers. In late November the Whitlock Tom Stein Creative Arts Center presented their Third Annual Open House and Art Show, and on December 18th the Kanner Center held their Annual Family Luncheon and Holiday Show. The caring staff of all three centers go to great lengths to celebrate the many holiday traditions, such as Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa, reflected in the cultures of our staff and individuals. Such experiences enrich the holiday season and broaden the awareness of all on our campuses.

Devereux would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the wonderful friends and corporations who worked so tirelessly to make this a joyful and wonderful holiday for our children and adults.
