Washington, CT - In only its second season, the excitement for Cocoa Cafe is evident as the audience packed Devereux Glenholme’s tiny theater with students, faculty and friends earnestly enthusiastic about the event. December's "Happy Holidays" theme brought out a dozen exciting seasonal acts and opportunities for sharing with solo dance, song and comedy segments to ensemble holiday readings and singing duets.

The Arts Department delights in hosting the Cocoa Cafe one evening each month. This recurring event offers students who have been working on acts in their arts classes, an opportunity to perform for an audience in a comfortable setting. Whether it is song, dance, poem, drama, or stand-up comedy, students utilize this opportunity to hone their skills whereby heightening their own self-confidence as performers and artists.

The genuine smiles and applause with each performance further evidence the appreciation for arts opportunities such as the Cocoa Cafe. The audience and artists departed with expressed excitement for next month’s event and many spoke with great anticipation of the Center for the Arts, currently under construction, and the possibilities this authentic theater setting will afford them.

Devereux Glenholme is an exceptional boarding school for students with special needs, which offers an individually prescribed learning environment with a steadfast academic curriculum. Using our effective individualized services, we apply a positive behavior support model focused on development of social skills and lifelong strategies for success.
