Washington, CT -

The fall sports programs at Devereux Glenholme have received an abundance of healthy enthusiasm from students and faculty alike. The seasoned soccer team and the inaugural cross country crew experienced achievements beyond scores and rankings with their hard work, team effort, and camaraderie.

Soccer is a popular interscholastic sport at Glenholme and continues to enjoy the positive returns that team sports provide. Although the soccer team is in need of a new field, with Center for the Arts construction beginning, they conclude their travel season with a solid record, outscoring their opponents 22-13 and a final record of 4-2-1. Their on-field communication and team work provided them with the advantage to triumph over their opponents.

The cross country crew, in its first season, competed in two meets against local schools including Rumsey Hall, Millbrook, Cheshire, Maplebrook, Chase, Foreman and Woodhall. Their races were 2.2 to 3.0 miles long and the best finish for Glenholme was the 7th place ranking at Rumsey Hall by Josh S.  Overall, the enthusiasm for this new sporting program lends itself to much promise for upcoming seasons.

Sports, such as soccer and cross country, provide healthy growth opportunities for students at The Glenholme School. Exercise, fun, social learning, discipline, and working together as a team, aid them socially and cognitively while instilling the essentials of a healthy lifestyle.  The positive returns from team sports can lead to improved academic performance and every student is encouraged to participate.
