Washington, CT - Groundbreaking for Glenholme’s Center for the Arts took place on May 2nd amidst the excitement and success of the school’s Fifth Annual Parents’ Weekend and auction event with the support of James Marsden and Jessica Biel. With the construction of the building well underway, the fundraising campaign continues for the final phase of construction.

The Center for the Arts is an essential program mission, which is to make the arts a vital, effective and ongoing part of every student’s life. Linked to the positive behavior supports, the arts program is designed to impact positively on each individual in both artistic skills and social competencies that will assist them in mastering their treatment plan goals which leads to a brighter future. As an activity-based program, the arts provide sequential experiences in the practice of creating that enable young people to understand and to express themselves in ways that do not depend solely on the written or spoken word. The arts convey knowledge and meaning often not learned through the study of other subjects. As an educational institution serving children with special needs, we have the obligation to provide the opportunity of a well-rounded education.

The Center for the Arts will soon become home to the school’s theatre, art, dance, and music programs. In addition, it will serve as the one venue on campus with ample space to accommodate large events and performances in a truly authentic setting. The Center for the Arts will provide a safe and stable environment for exploration of the fine arts at Glenholme.
