Artwork created by a Devereux childKennesaw, GA - The Devereux Georgia Treatment Network is pleased to present The Amazing Things About Art, the Second Annual Student Art Exhibit at the Cobb Museum of Art in Marietta. The exhibit runs through March 21, 2009 in the upstairs gallery. It features the original paintings, sketches and jewelry made by 29 students and five professional artists who hosted workshops for the students.

An opening night reception was held at the Museum to recognize and honor the accomplishments of the students. Devereux Advisory Board Members, including former Governor Roy Barnes, mentors, volunteers and employees came out for the celebration. “We are so proud of our young people,” Barnes stated. “Not only is their art amazing, they are amazing!”

The show is made possible by a grant from The Grassroots Art Project and The Georgia Council for the Arts. The purpose of the show is to allow students to experience what it is like to prepare for a professional art show. They created works they knew would hang in the museum for the public to view, explained Tori Tinsley, Devereux teacher and art director for the show.

Others partners for this event are: FastFrame at Town Center in Kennesaw, The Marietta Daily Journal and the professional artists who worked with our youth. Their names are Meghan McKendree, Ling Olaes, Jackie Adkins, Phil Turner and June Littlepage. Opening night was sponsored by The Barnes Law Group and catering services were provided by Carriage House Catering of Marietta.
