Devereux Cleo Wallace Welcomes Reverend Leon Kelly

Westminster, CO - Reverend Leon Kelly, the executive director and founder of Open Door Youth Gang Alternatives, a noted leader and innovator in developing intervention strategies with street gang members, visited Devereux Cleo Wallace (DCW) on Monday, November 24th. Reverend Kelly tells his own personal story of the struggles of overcoming drugs, a prison sentence and changing his life to become one of the leading advocates for “kids at risk.”
According to Sam Benavidez, therapeutic recreation and physical activities center supervisor, “The visit was very deep and powerful.” He noted that the kids seemed stunned and shocked by some of the scenarios Reverend Kelly shared about kids he’d known who were gone because of bad choices. He also shared stories of innocent victims caught in the crossfire and discussed the consequences, and how choosing the wrong path could mean either being in jail or death.
